Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions Connecticut homeowners ask most before booking a renovation, from pricing to permits to payment.
Estimates & Pricing
What You’ll Pay
Do you charge for estimates?
No. Estimates are free and there’s no obligation to book the work.
How is my estimate calculated?
We walk the site with you, talk through scope and materials, then put labor, materials and permitting in writing, with a contingency line for anything found once work starts. [Confirm turnaround time between the walkthrough and the written quote.]
Why do prices vary so much between contractors?
Mostly because the scope being quoted isn’t the same. A lower number often means fewer materials specified, less prep work included, or a contractor who isn’t licensed and insured. Comparing two quotes line by line, not just the bottom number, is the way to tell what you’re actually being offered.
Is the estimate the final price?
The written estimate is what we hold to for the scope agreed on. If something changes mid-project, whether that’s your request or something found behind a wall, it goes through a written change order first, so there are no surprises on the final invoice.
Do you offer financing?
[Confirm whether Cyr Custom Remodeling works with any financing partners or accepts payment plans, or whether that’s left entirely to the homeowner.]
Scheduling & Process
How a Project Runs
How far out are you booked?
[Give a rough sense, e.g. “typically 2-4 weeks out for a walkthrough, longer for larger projects in spring and summer.”]
How long does a typical project take?
It depends heavily on scope. A single room usually runs a few weeks once work starts; a full addition or whole-home renovation is measured in months once permitting is included. Our renovation timeline guide breaks down each stage in more detail.
Can I live in my home during the work?
For most single-room or addition projects, yes, though expect some noise, dust and at least one utility interruption during rough-in. Larger whole-home projects sometimes make staying elsewhere for a stretch worth considering.
What’s the first step to getting started?
Call or text us with what you’re thinking. We’ll ask a few questions and book a time to come look at the site, then follow up with a written estimate.
Permits, Licensing & Area
Where and How We Work
Are you licensed and insured in Connecticut?
[Yes, plus your CT contractor registration number. Homeowners look for this, and Connecticut home improvement contractors are required to be registered, so listing the number here builds trust.]
Do you pull permits?
[Confirm whether permitting is handled as part of the job and whether that’s included in the estimate by default.]
What towns do you work in?
We’re based in East Haddam and serve homeowners throughout New London and Middlesex Counties. Not sure if we cover your town? Give us a call and we’ll tell you straight.
Payment
How You’ll Pay
What forms of payment do you accept?
[List accepted payment methods, e.g. check, card, bank transfer.]
Do you require a deposit?
[Confirm typical deposit structure, e.g. percentage up front, at contract signing.]
How are payments structured on larger jobs?
[Confirm whether larger projects are billed as deposit, progress payments tied to milestones, and a final payment on completion, or some other structure.]
Warranty & Guarantee
If Something Isn’t Right
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
[Confirm what workmanship warranty, if any, is offered, and for how long. Materials typically carry their own manufacturer warranty separately.]
What happens if something isn’t right after the job is done?
We walk the finished work together before calling a job complete, and anything that isn’t right gets fixed before we consider it done. If something comes up after that, get in touch and we’ll take a look.
